Molecular Insight Pharmaceuticals Inc. has launched a mid-stage human clinical trial for a treatment of a form of childhood cancer.
The Cambridge, Mass. company, (Nasdaq: MIPI) said on Thursday that it had begun Phase II clinical
tests of Azedra to treat children who suffer from high-risk neuroblastoma, a neuroendocrine cancer.
The cancer is considered aggressive and difficult to treat. It usually affects children under age five and there are no FDA-approved treatments for the form of the disease being treated in the clinical trial.
Molecular Insight is also testing the drug as a treatment for pheochromocytoma in adults. The disease involves the growth of tumors in the adrenal gland.
